Expanded hybrids: creation and pedagogy on screendance, was an international residency on screendance, organized by Paulina Ruiz Carballido and Ximena Monroy Rocha inside the Agite y Sirva 2018 · 10° Screendance Touring Festival, in tandem with the artists Camille Auburtin (FR), Ladys Gonzalez (AR), Priscilla Guy (CA), Emilie Morin (CA), Iván Ramirez (MX) and Jean-Baptiste Fave (FR). The Residency took place from July 16 to 28, 2018, at the Centro de las Artes de San Agustín Etla (CaSa), Oaxaca, México, and it was divided in two parts (2 weeks): 1° “Cine-choreographic worlds: women behind and in front of the camera” and 2° “Screendance Lab: creative pedagogic tools”.
This Residency recived the support ofPrograma de Fomento a Proyectos y Coinversiones Culturales del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA) and from Programa de Apoyo a la Docencia, Investigación y Difusión de las Artes PADID 2017 inside the 10th Anniversary Edition of Agite y Sirva · Festival Itinerante de Videodanza in Mexico, 2018.
In this residency we shared, explored and researched methodological tools of creation and pedagogy on screendance and expanded choreography, we experimented several ways to create images, textures, and sound atmospheres questioning and expanding intemedial and transdisciplinary notions in the hybrid creation of this artistic field. How to cinematographically depict a corporeal presence in a dance state? How to choreo-cinematographically intervene and inhabit a space? We proposed that Expanded hybrids, be a laboratory-residency that would question the relationships and compositions of camera-body-movement-time-space-rhythm, the interactions in vivo with the viewer, the architecture and the screen, generating a ludic, sensitive, poetic and choreographically expanded space. In other words, a residency of expansion and permeability in which we investigated multiple interpretative and imaginative ways of exploring gestures, actions and emotions in resonance with audiovisual language and spaces of representation.
1° week 16 - 20 july 2018. “Cine-choreographic worlds: women behind and in front of the camera” During the first week, the artists Camille Auburtin (FR), Emilie Morin (CA), Ladys Gonzalez (AR), Paulina Ruiz Carballido (MX-FR), Priscilla Guy (CA) and Ximena Monroy (MX), worked together to create visuals poems from ludic and sensitive propositions that investigated the body as identity, memory, listening, presence, space, action, relationship and creation. In addition, they shared experiences, strategies and pedagogical methods with the aim of designing the Laboratory of the second week.
2° week 23 - 28 july 2018. “Screendance Lab: creative pedagogic tools” During the second week at the San Agustín Arts Center (CaSa), we carried out a laboratory based on an international call from which we selected 10 artists, professors and researchers to accompany us to share and generate a creative thought and tools of pedagogy for screendance. This residency sought to confront and question the existing pedagogical and creative methods on screendance in France, Canada, Argentina and Mexico, proposing new approaches that would expand individual and collective abilities and capacities to develop opportunities and encourage the artistic guild to teach and create videodance. In this laboratory we had the participation of artists Jean-Baptiste Fave (FR) and Iván Ramírez (MX).
How to take pedagogical reflections as a duet? In this laboratory we worked on "Pas de deux - expansive duets," generating questions and creating proposals about screendance, face to face with the other. Each duet worked on a theme proposed by each guide, developing exercises and creative proposals to present, develop and discuss as a group. At the end of the residency, their results were presented as pieces of an expanded stage intervention.
Open Residency - public presentation. Friday, 27 july 2018. At the end of the residency and the laboratory, we presented our creative work process, in various formats such as screendance, expanded choreography and live performance, created during the residency. This public exhibition presented the poetic of working together in diaspora. In resonance, we continue working together.
